SMCP for Tomorrow

1 — Become a sustainable leader

SMCP officially launched sustainable committees as part of its active and dynamic sustainability strategy. These committees aim to reinforce our overall sustainability strategy but also to bond with everyone in order to identify our needs and to develop internal efforts. This organization is composed of one global committee and 6 individual commitees to represent each BU.

The purpose is that everyone feels implicated in a positive and active sustainable effort. You have an ideaThey are listening

1 — NO MORE FUR!

The Group really wants to involve itself in sustainability. It is ready to take strong decisions and to take action.

The Artistics Directors of Sandro, Maje and Claudie Pierlot decided to stop producing fur and to banish it from their collections as of SS20.

A huge and strong decision for all brands in favor of the sustainability movement of SMCP. Let’s continue…

Creative Update

Doesn’t matter if you call it checked, houndstooth or Prince of Wales Check, this season these prints are in. Already very fashonable last season, they are back for the Fall Winter 2019 Collection. Our Artistic Directors match this trend with poncho, trench or more daring, the total look. It’s the big trend of the season and we love it!

Entrepreneurs Stories

Coffee-Break with Justine Bénit

For our back-to-work edition, the SMCP Magazine moves to greener areas and comes to meet the dazzgling Justine, Sustainability Manager, in the Group for almost 2 years now.

She says “I was always interested in environment and how to make things change in a good way. The CSR helps companies to be more positive in their way to manage their environnemental and social impacts.”. That’s how, after a specialized scholar program, she joined SMCP for her final internship and… never left!

« It’s the entreprenarial spirit that motivated me from the get go. I hadn’t graduated yet, and I felt trusted and really integrated in the companyIt’s really formative and gratifying!  »

Justine Bénit,
Sustainability Manager

In 2017, SMCP opened officially its sustainability department in order to answer the global market transformation but also to answer an internal willingness of the collaborators to be involved. Justine says “the Group wanted to answer this mutation and since we are ambitious we decided to focus on the 3 pillars of CSR in our global strategy. It may have taken some time but when we decide to go, we go for real! ”

Justine’s days are never the same, and that’s what she likes! The subjects to be addressed are numerous and very diversified. “I work as much on the audits as on the overall strategy of the Group but also on the Brand level.” Justine has a search engine role, sensitization and coordination. Brands rely heavily on her knowledge in terms of innovation and market trends on products, eco-friendly materials, labels … It helps them find alternatives and more responsible solutions.

“In 2 years, we did a lot despite communicating very little!”

Even if we are not perfect, we have to communicate! That’s why, the idea of the sustainable committees came up. “This initiative aims to make a state of play of the internal practices because most of the collaborators think that we do nothing while we did many efforts. Nevertheless, the main goal is to exchange and alert them to our sustainability strategy. In order to spread our strategy and the different ideas. Sustainability is an internal issue at all levels which requires involvement!”

« My sustainability ideal for SMCP would be to keep the desirability of our collections while making them responsible.  »

Our brands are starting to be mature in this subject and they are slowly ready to make choices. “To speak about strong announcement for our brands, they decided to stop their fur production as of  SS20. It’s a huge stap for the Group and its brands. This transition has to be made openly. It was a really major artistical and aesthetic subject but our Artistic Directors decided so.”

This effort is crucial in our sustainability action and slowly things are moving
