Global News

1 SMCP organizes its 1st Hackathon!

 

We are delighted to share with you this initiative which was launched and organized on November 17 and 18 by the Global Services Sustainability Committee: Global Goes Green! This innovative, federative, and forward-looking event was proposed to the employees of our five Parisian offices.

 

First of all, what is a hackathon?

It is a dedicated time for creative and innovative reflection, dealing with a concrete problem for the company, which mixes teams of various profiles and departments.

 

Why organize it at SMCP?

This initiative has a very strong resonance with our core values and culture, as passionate entrepreneurs who make a concrete contribution to the Group’s future. It is also a great opportunity to create connections between employees from different horizons, to develop links between the Brands, to look at issues from another angle. The Global Goes Green committee, the sponsors, the Management team, the participants… everyone also saw this modern, disruptive, inclusive approach, as a way to attract some future talents.

 

The Hackathon by SMCP…

The event was organized in an external Parisian location and brought together 31 participants who had to work during 48 hours on a crucial and significant subject for the Group: How to generate vocation & deal with Sustainability challenges in the Retail Industry?, in order to address this issue and propose innovative solutions to implement within the Group.

These two days ended up with a presentation in the Maje showroom, in front of a selective final jury of internal and external experts, as well as a Comex jury which awarded a special prize.

 

Congratulations for this 1st Hackathon which was full of positivity, energy, and passion!

Congratulations to the winning teams Spiderman & The Mask as well as the Comex jury’s special prize: Star Wars!

2 – Our Asian BU is holding its annual conference!

 

This long-awaited meeting brought together head office employees and store managers from all the Brands in Asia.

This year it was a hybrid multi-city event organized in Hong Kong, bringing together more than 400 employees from Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Macao, Taipei, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. This conference allowed everyone to gather around strategic topics for the Group and its Brands and to thank all teams for their commitment and motivation.

In addition, in line with our Sustainability commitment, our Asian BU is increasingly involved in the reuse and transformation of construction waste. Thus, on the conference, the store managers received gifts from our stores construction sites materials during the conference:

  • For Sandro, green marble and travertine coasters from closed stores wastes or marble scraps
  • For Maje, coasters in pink onyx and Ceppo marble from marble scraps
  • For Claudie Pierlot, tote bag and pouch made from Claudie Pierlot fitting rooms’ navy blue velvet curtains

3 – MyLearning immerses you in virtual reality!

 

The Digital Learning team is exploring a new format for even more innovative and immersive training courses, to put the learner at the core of the training : the virtual reality.

To discover the onboarding morning entirely revisited as an escape game, the virtual visits of our new concept stores or the emotional experience at Maje, and many other SMCP virtual reality experiences… Stay tuned !

4 – Focus on La School, your SMCP training school

 

Management fundamentals and essentials, onboarding, Non-violent Communication, Finance for Non-Financial People, Excel, Coaching, FeedBack, Public speaking, Insights, and many more! … Your HQ and Network skills development plans are being implemented!

During these last few months, La School has managed to maintain a certain level of training, especially through distance learning.

Our training school’s mission and its regional relays are to accompany you throughout your career within the SMCP Group, to develop your skills in many areas, whether they are necessary for your job, for mastering tools, in support of a promotion or mobility etc.

Facing a world in transformation, and in order to meet the expectations of our Sustainability pillar SMCPeople, The School is committed to build optimized training plans, with :

  • Coherent educational training objectives;
  • Actions focused on know-how and interpersonal skills, which are fundamental to rebuild relationships and adapt with agility to a changing environment;
  • Various and alternating learning methods: face-to-face and distance learning, individual training or in group, with La School and Mylearning.

5 – Happy 5th Birthday for the M Bag!

The M was born with fringes. Structured yet playful, the bag is the perfect balance between urban and bohemian. For 5 years, the M by Maje has been spotted all over the world. Every season, it is enriched with new expressions: the M is a real playground for design.

 

For this anniversary collection, the M, more than ever, plays around with the length, and design of what made it famous.

5 bags have been created, 5 sets of fringes, short, long, wide and daring. A playful and festive idea, true to the spirit of Maje. It will be fun to collect these variations of fringes. All styles can be found in these 5 expressions that celebrate 5 years.

 

The campaign illustrates this ability to connect and speak to a broad community. The M and its versatility are still very present. You can be a working girl, a student, an urban girl, a bohemian, a fashion it girl, and love the M for different reasons. One of the pleasures of the M is to be able to associate a wide set of accessories with it. Aircase, chained card holder, silver crocodile leather, bright turquoise … We associate these fun accessories in small touches with our M.

Sustainability Culture

1 – BeeWrap Do-It-Yourself workshop at SMCP

 

On the European Week for Waste Reduction, SMCP proposed to all Parisian headquarters to participate in a BeeWrap Do-It-Yourself workshop.

The opportunity to discover this ecological food packaging solution made from beeswax and 100% cotton fabric & to (of course) make their own. ?

A great initiative to make our employees aware of waste reduction and limiting the use of plastic and aluminum while providing an ecological solution!

2 – Discover Isabelle Allouch's podcast on SANDRO's Sustainability strategy

How can fashion become responsible and sustainable?

Through the podcast L’Empreinte (footprint), Isabelle Allouch, CEO of Sandro, addresses Sandro’s environmental actions in a concrete way.

What is the brand’s Sustainability strategy? How to produce more sustainable clothes? Or how to reduce their carbon footprint?

3 – Do you know about the circular economy?

 

Sandro organized its first internal Sustainability conference on circular economy in collaboration with Raphaël Masvigner, co-founder of Circul’R.

Circul’R is a French social company that aims to build the first global network of circular economy start-ups. It intends to create bridges between them and large corporations so that they can co-create circular economy solutions.

The objective of this conference was to introduce or rediscover this model, to gather and inspire teams around this fascinating topic which is at the heart of the Brand’s concerns as well as the creation of its collections.

4 – La CRAVATE SOLIDAIRE x Fursac: 2 actions

In line with its values, Fursac has chosen to support La Cravate Solidaire (the social Tie).

Created in Paris in January 2012, this association makes access to employment easier for people in professional integration or reintegration by struggling against physical discrimination. It offers an appropriate clothing and advice from HR specialists to prepare the candidate well and put all the chances on his side on the day of his interview.

Thanks to monthly donations from individuals and companies, dozens of candidates are offered an outfit that makes them look good.

On one hand, the Brand organized a charity sale from November 20 to 26 on https://lesbienfaiteurs.com/. For each piece purchased, one piece will be donated to La Cravate Solidaire.

On the other hand, from November 26 to 28, Fursac set up an operation 1 ticket = 5€ donated to La Cravate Solidaire in all its stores (network & outlet in France, Switzerland, Luxembourg & Belgium).
