Creative Update

1 – Clara Luciani x Sandro Paris 2020

Sandro has invited French singer Clara Luciani to bring her dreams to life through this capsule collection. Alongside Evelyne Chetrite, Founder & Artistic Director of the Brand, she’s designed a wardrobe of 30 numbered and limited-edition pieces.

Tinged with colours inspired by the south of France, her graphic universe is reflected in cool Seventies style, imbued with poetry.

For Evelyne, this collaboration was evident because of Sandro values that Clara embodies and her common philosophy of life “feet on the ground, head in the stars”.

Discover the story that these 2 inspiring women wanted to tell us here.

Maje X Poppy Undies

They were made for each other. Emily Labowe and Judith Milgrom. It all started with the Autumn-Winter 2020 campaign for which we asked Emily Labowe to be one of our ambassadors. We met someone sensual, beautiful and natural. A woman for today, who launched her brand and created collections of underwear and embroidered knickers under the name Poppy Undies.

Emily is a free, straightforward and inspiring woman. A woman we love. Judith loved her.So we just couldn’t leave it at that, it would be a shame. What if we did something together, instead?  Our collaboration, Maje X Poppy Undies, consists of three embroidered knickers cool and original. A bright pink poppy, a flowering cactus and a cute strawberry. Emily’s knickers are everything you need in 2020: sexy and playful.”

3 – Back the Seventies with Claudie Pierlot

This autumn, Claudie Pierlot swings towards ultra retro  styling.  Strong  looks  take  centre  stage,  inspired by the Seventies revolution. Meticulously designed,   today’s   silhouettes   feature   all   the   iconic influences of yesteryear.

In a bright, peaceful apartment, the patchwork effect fabric of a long flowing skirt matches the wood and formica backdrop.

In  the  office,  a  British  checked  blazer  and  faded  jeans  are paired with a white shirt to create a more demure look. Others will  go  for  a  tobacco-coloured  suit,  enhanced  by  a  black  and  white jabot frill shirt to echo the official uniform found in the Mad Men office.

The look is more theatrical as evening falls. Slip on  a  garnet  red  velvet  suit in a fitted cut that’s reminiscent  of  Britt  Ekland  being  embraced  by the  Rolling  Stones.  A  deliberately  daring  and purposely  androgynous  look,  with  a  decidedly rock  vibe.

A mood that’s reminiscent of legendary nights at New  York’s  Studio  54,  celebrated  via  a  flowing jumpsuit  with  a  Memphis  print.  For  looks  that span the decades and set the tempo.

4 – Conversations on style at De Fursac

Is French elegance that different to British? And how would you define De Fursac’s house style? To mark the opening of De Fursac’s first UK shop, “Conversations on style” asks three authorities on British fashion to share their views on style and a lot more…

Speakers: Donna Wallace (British Vogue fashion & accessories), Ben Cobb (editor, writer & consultant) et Anthony Sylvester (writer & musician)

5 – Emily in Paris wears our most beautiful pieces

Overview: Emily in Paris wearing resolutely sharp looks created by Patricia Field, known for her work in Sex & the City or The Devil wears Prada.

This new series, very popular on Netflix, presents fashionable looks with our most beautiful pieces to embody the Parisian style to perfection.

Sandro was inspired by it to offer tips for his salespeople in order to project themselves into the new collection and to nourish their creativity.

Entrepreneur Stories

Coffee-Break with Abdoulaye Maiga

Raw Materials and Components Warehouse Manager

His first contact with Maje? Pure chance. For Abdoulaye (aka Mamad), it all began in 2000 while he was walking in the neighborhood called the “Sentier”, at a time when Maje and Sandro had only 10 employees by their side. He confides to us: “I walked past Maje’s place where I met Simon (Judith Milgrom’s brother) who said to me: “Are you looking for work? If so, I have something to offer you.” That’s how the adventure started and has never stopped evolving…

« By chance I joined Maje, I learned a job that I didn’t know, I discovered a family that supported me a lot and trusted me a lot, I grew up, I appreciated, and I evolved.  »

Abdoulaye progressively learns about textile, fashion, fabrics, receiving and sending raw materials to the tailors. He climbed the ranks as the brand evolved: “I grew up, I fed myself, I learned this job. In 2006, we moved from Le Sentier, and that’s when I oversaw stock management and launches in direct link with the style, production and supply teams.”

“What is rather atypical for me is that ordinarily you go to school, you learn a job and then you join a company and practice the job you have learned. With me, that was not the case: for me, SMCP was both school and practice.”

Then in 2010 with the creation of the SMCP group, Logistics took a new direction and experienced a real expansion. “We realized that we had to see bigger, to leave Paris Intramuros, to see more operational, to set up structured, professionalized & anticipated processes with an activity composed of different poles”. With the acquisition of a new warehouse and an organized supply chain, Abdoulaye took Sandro and Claudie Pierlot’s logistics under his wing, adding to that of Maje. It was then that the Logistics itself became part of the Raw Materials & Components activity.

« My highest pride is that I have built something for myself and for SMCP. There is nothing we can do alone! I have seen the Group grow, I have participated in setting up this Logistics from scratch. Unusual are the companies that manage their entire supply chain.  »

Today Logistics Manager, Abdoulaye manages a team of 20 polyvalent employees. He shares and transmits his wishes and passion for the job daily. While also learning from his team, and there is nothing more rewarding. “I train new generations. Yesterday I learned and I was taught, and today I have this chance to pass on this knowledge. I am also enriched by them, especially on the fact that what we could do yesterday, now we have to modify, adjust, perfect it in order to constantly renew ourselves.”

“Everything motivates me, I love what I do, I have gained expertise, and I do it with passion.”

You have to love, understand and handle this Logistics. “It’s good to dress up, to wear nice clothes, but the most pleasant thing is to know what you’re wearing.” What is silk? What is wool? Why is such a material used? Why put a zip instead of a button? So many questions which fascinate Abdoulaye and which do not stop to make evolve its job.

Each season we must renew ourselves and adapt to the specific changes in our business, our brands and the Group. “In Logistics, we are at the crossroads of an ancestral know-how that requires experience and expertise and a technical dimension that is always evolving. The strength of SMCP is that we have been able to preserve one and improve the other.”

Made with Passion

1 – De Fursac gains the English capital!

With its inauguration on September 26th, the 80 m² boutique will be home to the tailoring, urban casual and eveningwear collections in a new architectural concept.

Installed in the Chelsea neighbourhood at 11-13 Duke of York Square, it was obvious to Alix & Elina that the first De Fursac’s boutique outside of France should be in London:

« I’ve always been drawn to the effervescence of London. I’ve been visiting regularly for years. From the second-hand clothes at Camden and Portobello markets to the legendary tailors of Saville Row: this city is bursting with an inspiration and energy that nourish me when it comes to creating my collections.  London and Paris are so close yet so different in style, and that has always fascinated me.”      »

Alix Le Naour, Artistic Director

« We are delighted and very proud to open our first free standing store outside France in London. I’m convinced of the appeal and potential of French wardrobe proposed by De Fursac in the English market. This opening represents the first chapter in our international expansion which should see others in the coming months.    »
